A new endeavor

I am so entranced by my sister's blog that I decided to experiment with my own.
She is A Noble Character; I am a Zippy Mama. I have aspirations of becoming a Noble Character, but I still find myself zipping around, sometimes serious, sometimes wacky, sometimes SUPPOSED to be serious, but being wacky instead! So basically, I am like this blog...a work in progress.

Books back on the Shelf (recently completed)

Public Enemies by Bryan Burrough
This is the story of the "crime wave" in the 30's. (Johnny Depp plays John Dillinger in the movie coming July 2009.) Very interesting reading. Bryan Burrough does a great job writing and keeping the story going, while incorporating documentary style facts. It was especially interesting to read of all the towns the "bad guys" were in, and to see how they criss-crossed our area. One could certainly have a wild geography lesson in this book, if one were so inclined! Toledo, South Bend, Mishawaka, Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Crown Point, Detroit....
The Cat Who Could Read Backwards by Lillian Jackson Braun The first of "The Cat Who" series, this introduces Koko, the Siamese cat who helps Jim Qwilleran solve mysteries.
The Aquitaine Progression by Robert Ludlum (Bourne Identity author) A meander around the globe, ridding the world of corrupt patriots.
Freedom and Boundaries by Kevin DeYoung Nicely written book about the "Biblical role" of women in the church. Can cause some controversy if you want to discuss it with friends. :)
The General's Daughter by Nelson Demille A disturbing book about the mysterious death of a young woman with "issues".
One Door Away From Heaven by Dean Koontz I slept with the light on, girls! Weird, weird, weird. Had SOME good elements in it.
The Key Lime Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke A lightweight novel about a young woman that owns a coffee shop and serves cookies. The twist is: there are actual recipes at the end of some of the chapters--good ones!
Keep a Quiet Heart by Elizabeth Elliot A short easy read, but packed with her thoughtful ponderings about various
subjects.
Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed by Shirer, Moore and Arthur A women's Bible study that I was very pleasantly surprised that I liked! These women are awesome speakers (we watched the video) and the daily study at home was just what I needed these two months.
Mr. Murder by Dean Koontz A well-written story even if it does have science fiction in it.
Blink of an Eye by Ted Dekker Fictional story of a Muslim (Saudi) girl and a secular American man.
If God Should Choose by Kristen Stagg The authorized story of Jim and Roni Bowers, young missionaries to Peru in the 90's. The writing style is a little simplistic, but the "story" is very interesting.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll I like a book that "goes somewhere", and this book does not. I was glad when the two hours were over. But I had to read it because I am doing the costumes for the summer production of "Alice in Wonderland Jr." I am trusting greatly in Colleen...she's a wonderful teacher and director, so I know it will be a great play, even if the book is pointless.
Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall and Lisa Pulitzer A very interesting book about Elissa's life in the FLDS cult. At age 14, she was forced to marry her cousin. After her departure, she testified against Warren Jeffs, the "prophet" of the group.
